SeniorNet Instructors and Coaches:
Volunteer instructors are vital to the existence of our SeniorNet program!
Volunteers are needed to serve as computer instructors for older adults and seniors in basic computer functions and programs. Various schedules are available and most classes are 1 ½ hours in length and meet once a week during an 8-week session. The volunteer instructor may teach up to seven students in our computer lab. Our classes are held Monday through Friday between 9:30 am and 5 pm. Our schedule can also accommodate Saturday classes depending on instructor availability.
We are also able to offer shorter lessons each session on topics that may not require 8 weeks of instruction, such as Internet Security. Shorter classes may run for 2 or 4 weeks.
Volunteers teach using a curriculum designed specifically for the older learner by SeniorNet, a worldwide organization dedicated to computer literacy for older adults. All materials are provided for instructors and their students.
An instructor and coaches should possess the following qualifications:
Patience
- Good oral communication skills
- Enjoys working with others
- Experience using Microsoft software, XP or Vista operating systems, Internet Explorer, etc.
If you are curious about becoming a volunteer but wish to view our curriculum first or sit in on a current class, please ask! We will be more than happy to help you familiarize yourself with our program. Copies of the current SeniorNet schedule can be found on this website.
By volunteering with our SeniorNet program, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and skills with older adults in our community. Volunteering your time is a wonderful way to spend free time you may have and can help build a resume and utilize your existing talents!
